
Lions Club of Trivandrum Metropolis
GENESIS
On August 14, 2000 the Lions Club of Trivandrum Metropolis was approved by the Lions Clubs International. The club was founded by Charter Members Lion Dr A G Rajendran, Lion Adv K A Balan, Lion Dr P N Mohandas, Lion Ambalathara Chandra Babu, Lion K Chidambaram, Lion P Divakran, Lion R Kumaradas, Lion S Gopikuttan Nair, Lion Dr C S Narayanan, Lion V K Chandrasekharan Pillai, Lion S Natarajan and Lion Adv S S Rajeev.
GROWTH
The Lions Club of Trivandrum Metropolis has since grown 24 member-strong over the period of last ten years with continued inductions and occasional drops necessitated by domiciliary movements afar. The members of the club hold the view that each one should reach one to expand the membership.
SERVICE
The Lions Club of Trivandrum Metropolis has completed a decade of service in Lionism. During this period the club has served the poor and needy by rendering assistance in the fields of healthcare, education, employment and charity. It has held various medical camps for eye screening, cataract surgery, corneal transplantation and for general checkup. The club has provided medicines and medical insurance cover to many and sponsored numerous scholarships and educational tools for the students belonging to the weaker sections of society. It has also provided occasional aid to Government schools in the form of books and uniforms. The club has helped women and the physically challenged to embark upon self-employment. Providing financial aid to orphanages, poor homes, and institutions for the mentally retarded is a regular activity of the club. Further, during this 2010-2011 Lionistic Year, as envisaged by Lions District 324 E1, the Lions Club of Trivandrum Metropolis proposes to undertake many more projects. The major ones include Aid to Heart Surgery, Home for the Mentally and Physically Challenged, Screening of School Children for Eye Problems, Waiting Rooms at Bus Stops and Hospitals, Women Empowerment and Energy Conservation.
